It is an unbelievably beautiful day in Seattle, and I am so proud that I managed to do what I said I was going to: Walk the dog.
Ever since this latest round of pain began--first in the right hip, then in the left--I haven't been able to walk Connie, and he has been relying on a once-a-week, hour-long walk with Younger Son, my college student, and also games of catch in the yard with me.
The pain is pretty much gone, however, and I knew the longer I put off getting back into some kind of exercise the harder it would be. So, today was The Day.
First, I puttered in the front garden for a bit, deadheading the crocuses and other spring bulbs and murdering slugs and snails. Then, Connie and I set off for Ravenna Park, nitro in a small purse around my neck and cell phone in my pocket.
We walked 12 blocks there and back, and I have to say, it was tough. Not for Connie, he was in his element, with two balls crammed into his mouth.
My legs felt like the proverbial lead, but I made it. Six blocks to the park, a break to play catch until Connie was panting, and then six blocks back. Small miracles.
Now I have the windows open to air out the house, and I'm going to take a sauna and shower and then try to catch up on some other tasks. I'm expecting I'll need a nap shortly, but that's OK.
Tomorrow, Connie gets another walk.

That sounds amazing to me. You're sandwiched with chemo and knives and you did that?
Six blocks total is my Personal Best. With about four sitting rests. And I do not have cancer. Whatever it is they are doing for you it must be working. I think you are right, you have more life yet, and so you should do it all, as much as possible. I wonder if all the time spent on the couch could be affecting your back, which would also affect the hips, as well as whatever they found there to knife.
(Spoken as someone with a lower back bolted together with metal brackets and screws and the original malstructure not corrected). Couches kill me.

So happy, that after that horrid ER visit, you got a chance to embrace life and walk Connie again. Here's to new beginnings and fresh starts! Sounds like you are welcoming spring.
