I didn't actually have to demand to be freed this morning, Dr. Lee is more than willing to let me go, but I think I would have insisted if he wasn't ready.
Why is it so tough to be sick in a hospital?
Granted, they take care of you, everything from hygiene to meals to medical treatment, but the constant "hurry up and wait" for things to happen and the constant interruptions made me a bit crazy.
(Finally, three days ago, I asked for a "do not disturb" sign for my door, and put it up for a couple of hours every afternoon. Then I closed the door and just had some quality time with myself, reading and watching old movies.)
I have to say, though, oncology nurses are a breed apart. And there are some excellent nurses here. Competent, caring, and willing to be real human beings with their patients.
So, here's the plan: One last bowl of hospital oatmeal and a coffee. A shower. Dress in my very own clothes. Then gather up all my stuff in the room and wait for the paperwork. Monica is coming for me at 11 and she's going to do a "drive-by" and whisk me away to freedom, just in case anyone decides to change their mind!
I still have the gamma knife procedure scheduled for this hospital on Thursday, but I'm going to sort that out when I get home.

Excellent news! Being in the hospital is almost like being in another dimension. It will be much easier to ponder and make decisions in the comfort of home. And (speaking as the Mom of a 21-year-old son), let those boys pamper you a little.

Our oncology nurses were the best. Kept us focused on the small moments that were happening right then, and yes, willing to be real, sympathetic in the best sense of the word people where the doctors just cannot allow themselves to get that close.

Last time I was in the hospital, I had a nurse that complained that this was her 7th day straight working because she had 2 jobs. She complained she couldn't wait until tomorrow, her one day off. I couldn't believe she was complaining to me while I was flat on my back, in bed, recovering from cholangitis and sepsis! Like I was the only thing between her and a day off. What a B*tch.
