After procrastinating for something like two weeks, I finally sat down today to write my draft of the application to get neratinib on compassionate use grounds.
The application is supposed to come from my oncologist, of course, but he doesn't have time to write it, so I said I'd write the first draft and give it to him to edit. And I'm sure he's going to put a lot of my everyday language into medicalese, which is fine with me.
The application goes to the FDA.
So, I've been working on this for about three hours, and my brain is starting to rebel. This puppy is 1,200 words, and I'm not done yet. That's about six typed pages ...
The part that is taking so long is the "brief clinical history of the patient," which should include:
the diagnosis
the disease status
prior therapy
response to prior therapy
the rationale for requesting the proposed treatment.
Of course, my medical history is anything but brief. Luckily, most of the details are on my blog, although there are a couple of years there where I don't have such detailed info, because I wasn't writing the blog yet. I think I can fudge it. If not, I have to find my records from SCCA (my old cancer center) and plow through them.
Anyway, I'm running out of steam, so I think I'm going to make myself a treat and then read for awhile. I've been craving homemade vanilla pudding for some reason, so that's what I'm going to make.
After my break, it will be time to cook dinner. I told Older Son that I'd make one of his favorites tonight: Deep fried tofu with peanut sauce on a bed of sauteed spinach. Plus rice, of course. This is one of my favorites too. Love that peanut sauce!
