I walked out of my appt. with Dr. Lee the Second--who will be known on this blog as CyberKnife Guy--about an hour ago, totally exhausted.
Which is not to say it wasn't a good appt. It was. And CyberKnife guy answered all my questions and more. But now I can hardly keep my head up, so I am eating a bowl of oatmeal with raisins and brown sugar and then I'm going to take a nap.
Because I didn't sleep well last night, and I woke up extra early, probably because I knew I had to get up an hour earlier. It kinda works that way, doesn't it?
A couple of things I learned:
My tumor is about one centimeter in size, about the same size as the tumor in my right lung.
The tumor is in the bone of my skull, which I knew, but not on the bone at the surface. It is actually about two inches deep inside my head. There's bone there too, which I didn't know.
Anyway, I decided to go ahead with the cyberknife rather than gamma knife for two reasons:
Cyberknife is probably better at sparing the nerve that my tumor is wrapped around, because I will have three to five treatments, rather than one with the gamma knife.
And two, I like this doctor--he is thorough, considerate, and obviously very into his work--and I intensely disliked the doctor who tried to railroad me into agreeing to gamma knife. There's a rant coming about that doctor, who in my view was ambulance chasing.
More on cyberknife once I've had a nap.
@ Jeanne Sather 2009.
Wonderful news on the successful meeting with the new specialist. I am also impressed that he took the time to give you a thorough explanation of the problem at hand and what he would do about it.
Are you in the scheduling process now?

Thanks for sharing this all with us as candidly as you usually do. I am reading with great interest and, as always, I'm rooting for you.

Hi Jeanne,
I'm so glad that you like the doctor who will be doing Cyberknife and that you've made a decision. I think waiting to decide can be hard. As ever, Carver
