Well, today I gave up my credit card and booked my tickets to go and see Debutaunt in Houston. There's no turning back, as these are non-refundable tickets.
The only thing that I was hesitating over is that I am scheduled to get another gemcitabine treatment on Friday, and if it was anything like the last treatment, I'd be in Houston on my own when the drug started to make me feel crappy.
I know Dr. Lee said he would cut my dose, but that's still going to be a guesstimate of how much I can tolerate. And I don't want to wait any longer to go to see Deb--the girl is bored out of her gourd in a rehab center--so I decided that I would skip this Friday's gemcitabine, and get it next week instead.
Haven't told Dr. Lee this yet, but I don't think he will give me too hard a time about it. After that, I promise to be good and stay home and get my treatments as scheduled.
I've been thinking about this for a week, trying to decide how to make it all work out, and this seems the best way. I did cancel my plans to go to Berkeley this weekend for a J School alumni weekend. My white counts are low, and I shouldn't be in crowds. Plus, talking to a lot of people in a crowded room makes me really tired.
I'm excited to see Deb. She really loved Seattle, and I'm thinking of things I can take her that will remind her of the time she spent here last spring and summer.
You'll notice that Deb hasn't posted anything since February 10, but one of her sisters posts little updates on her Flickr site. Scroll down and you'll see a photo of Zoe, the Wonder Child, visiting her mom:
WhidbyChick If Deb feels up to it, maybe I can help her write a post or two for her blog. I know how hard it is for all of us when someone who love stays off-line for awhile.

Don't fret about feeling bad... we can take care of you too if you start feeling funky when you get here. btw... be forewarned it's a little hot and humid in Houston. Dress in layers... bring a sweater so you don't freeze in the A/C... and there is a lot of pollen in the air this time of year...
Deb is SOOOO excited to see you. We all are.
p.s. - Deb says to bring some of that good Seattle coffee... okay... she didn't, that was my request. ; )
