Sunday Scramble
It's Sunday morning, only six days till Younger Son and I leave on our cross-country journey by train.
The countdown has begun, and I'm trying to make steady progress on the things I need to do without making myself crazy in the process. That is easier said that done.
For today, my goals are:
To paint the trim for the living room and dining room doorways.
To finish a story that's due tomorrow.
And to walk Connie and go by the drugstore and pick up some prescriptions. (Which reminds me I need to check all my prescriptions to make sure I have enough of everything for the trip--one more task for the to-do list.)
Painting Break
I'm painting the strips of trim (which the Handy-Guy cut to size yesterday, after I had primed them) in the kitchen so that they will dry quickly. It's raining outside--typical Seattle spring. But this means that the kitchen is pretty much out of commission. I just ate a banana for breakfast, and I can reach the coffee pot, but cooking? Nope, not today.
I've discovered that painting is boring. I've done four boards, and have six more to go. So I thought I'd take a blogging break and then do a few more.
My shower is also out of commission, because Handy-Guy is going to replace the hardware on the shower, which is 30 years old and came from Europe, originally. So a simple repair/replacement job has become complicated. (Of course.)
He carried the hardware away in a plastic bag to consult with the plumbing-store folks.
I'm starting to worry about the bottom-line on these repairs. They will be the last for awhile, anyway. My budget can't take it. This summer I'll do things that don't require Handy-Guy's help.
I want a screendoor for the front door. I know I can paint it myself, and I think I might be able to hang it.
Anyway, I'm going to have to shower upstairs in the boys' bathroom. I think I'll just keep my eyes closed--their standards of cleanliness are nothing close to mine.
Medicare, The Envelope, Please
An envelope arrived a day or two ago that looks like my Medicare paperwork. I've been waiting for this, and meaning to call to find out where it was, because it should have arrived a month ago.
But now that it's here, I'm not in a hurry to open it because I know what it will mean: Paperwork to fill out (GOVERNMENT paperwork to fill out, the worse kind) and phone calls to make. (Ugh. Press 1 for English; press 2 for Espanol ...)
So tomorrow will be dedicated to Medicare paperwork and phone calls. Expect to see a rather heated post tomorrow.
Corvair Woes
To top it off, the Corvair, which broke down almost two weeks ago now, is just sitting at the mechanic's. He hasn't touched it. (He gave me a long and rambling excuse, which I didn't buy. Now I'm trying to decide if I should have it towed to yet another mechanic or just let it lie.)
This means that I am car-less in Seattle. I've rented cars for a few days at a time when I absolutely had to have one, but that gets expensive too. I'm contemplating buying a Vespa for backup transportation.
Wrapping Up
OK, back to the painting. Maybe I can get another four boards done before I need another break.
For those of you who are new to my blog: I am just ranting here, not looking for advice. So please don't send me advice. I'm just fine, muddling through my life in my own way.
