CancerMatch.com?
Assertive, adventurous 52-year-old woman, living with incurable cancer, would like to meet a marriage-minded Canadian gent who is a cancer survivor or living with the disease.

Me: Writer, artist, teacher, well-known cancer blogger. Mother of two almost-grown sons (22 and 17). Vegetarian (but you don’t have to be). Loves animals (two large dogs and three cats), gardening, house projects. The beach. Books. Travel. Financially solvent except for absurdly expensive health insurance premiums and medical costs. Dislikes: Pink ribbons, chemotherapy, and unsolicited advice.
You: Age 45 to about 57. Canadian citizen living in Vancouver, B.C., or willing to relocate there. Cancer patient or survivor. Open-minded. Bit of a risk taker. Warm hearted but not clinging. Bald OK.
I’m not looking for a caretaker, and you shouldn’t be either. I am looking for a lover and new best friend.

i just read this again since you moved it up...i had forgotten how completely hilarious it is! i'm sitting here alone, belly laughing. i mean, it is so straightforward. no beating around the bush here, kids: "...citizen living in Vancouver, B.C. or willing to relocate...bald OK." oh, jeanne. you kill me. very precise. besides, men love women who know what they want, don't they?

Jessica--DO men love women who know what they want? We'll find out.
Actually I've heard from several (make that five or six) very nice men and a few more who probably have agendas of their own that I wouldn't want to touch.
Going to try to find time to blog about this in the next day or two, in between my media interviews. WHAT HAPPENED? That's the big question right now. Who would have guessed that I would become the darling of Canadian talk radio?

i hope you're enjoying the adventure(s)!

I just saw you on King 5 and I admire your positive attitude! The blog is a fabulous idea and I hope all works out well for you and that things only get easier. I can't imagine what it must be like trying to fight the health insurance companies with cancer. I know my dad had to pay a lot extra because he told them he had high blood pressure. What a system!

I am an American who fell in love through the internet with a Canadian 8 years ago. What we didn't know at the time we decided to get married was what it takes to become a Landed Immigrant and qualify for the benefits that Canadians pay taxes to receive. I had to fill out applications, answer verbal questions, and have a medical exam before they would accept me here--the process took over a year. If I had had any kind of disease that would be costly, I don't think I would have been allowed in the country--If a person isn't elligilble for the medical plan up here, they probably won't allow you in the country. I wish you the best, but hope you will check what it takes to come to Canada to live before you go too far in your plans.
From one with experience, Sylvia

Sylvia--thanks for the info. I will be careful as I proceed, and check everything out. Who knows, I may end of living in Seattle with a Canadian husband!
But I think Canada will let me in if it's a "real" marriage, not a marriage entered into just for the sake of health insurance, which some people have ranted at me about.

I just saw you interviewed on Global TV news (Toronto) and felt compelled to hear more about your story. Many of us take our health care for granted here in Canada. (Some of us are lucky not to have had much experience with it.) I wish you all the best in your quest for love and good health.
Sincerely,

International attention...emails...phone calls...radio broadcasts...TV interviews...who would have thought from an ad started out of frustration. This ad has gotten more attention than your interview petitioning the legislature to raise the limit on health insurance. It's amazing how when you do things the "right way" you can get pushed around and swept into the bureaucracy, but then you something out of the ordinary like your ad and you gain international attention. Mixed emotions here. I'm laughing and at the same time asking "why?" Why does it have to be so hard to get the proper help you need? I don't understand. I taped your interview to my ondemand and I'm going to show it to Ray when he comes over. I'm sure he will start venting and share in your frustration. Way to keep fighting!!! Who's knows what may come from this seed that has been planted.

Wendy--you got it! Thanks for getting the point. And it is weird and frustrating, even while it's fun.
