The Lazy Cancer Blogger

Now that I'm feeling better physically (two whole months since my chemo break began) and mentally (it wasn't all that long ago I was in the middle of a huge meltdown), I'm discovering the joys of doing what I want to do.

Not what I HAVE to do. Or what I think I SHOULD do. Or even worse, what someone else thinks I SHOULD do.

The fact that it is summer, and a glorious Seattle summer, makes it all even better.

But I'm a slow learner, and a recovering Type A personality, so it has taken me a while to learn that being only marginally employed means that I am the one who decides how I'm going to spend each and every day. There is an upside to having cancer, who would have guessed?

So I wake up (late) in the morning and lie there, fending off the dogs, who think I should get up and FEED THEM, and think about what I want to do. I check my calendar, for form's sake, to make sure I don't forget a commitment, but most days are totally free. A few doctor's appointments and lunch dates here and there.

Today, I felt like working on a mosaic that I started the other day. So I did that. I also watered the garden, ate the first three ripe logan berries and the first two ripe blueberries of the summer, and I played with the dogs.

A few days ago I decided that I wanted to paint the front porch, so that project is also in process. The porch railings have been primed, and the porch floor has been scrubbed with bleach (mildew in Seattle) and scraped. I'm also going to paint the front wall of the house so that all the paint on the porch will be nice and fresh. Then I'll move the furniture and plants back, rustle up some cushions, and the porch will be open for summer.

I'll call a few friends: "The porch is open. Stop by any time."

All this is a very round-about way of saying that I haven't felt like blogging the past few days. I've thought about it. I have a long list of topics that I want to write about. I've even promised to write about certain things ... but haven't done it yet.

But hey, it's summer, and the porch is open.

Excellent! Enjoy.

I expect the internet and all those topics will still be here when you get back. ;)

Do you think? I thought I was holding the entire World Wide Web up on my own strong shoulders (!)
