Sunshine Cures Bad Case of the Whines

Well, I spent most of the day gardening, digging and working chicken compost into my front garden beds, mostly the strawberries and around the blueberry plants. I took a break to edit some student papers and then back to the garden.

The sunshine and exercise seem to have helped my whiny mood. I'm almost ready to go out in the world and interact with REAL PEOPLE--you know, at the grocery store and the post office, and then I'm going to stop by to see a friend.

If only the sunshine and exercise would fix my anemia! But a better mood helps, of course, even if my blood is still tired ... iron-poor, tired blood, remember that old TV commercial?

I bought the iron tonic yesterday and started taking it, and got on the Web to do some research to reinforce what I know from the last time I was anemic: drink orange or grapefruit juice with the iron to help absorb it, and avoid eating dairy foods at the same time. There's lots more info about taking iron on the Web, but those are the basics.

The tonic that I bought (Floradix) is a liquid extract; it's vegetarian and also Kosher, according to the label. I think the iron is from yeast and wheat germ, although the label doesn't say specifically. If I take it twice a day, I'll get 100 percent of the daily requirement, but I need to check in with my doctor to see if I should be taking more than that.

I know it's not a good idea to take too much iron, tempting as it is to try and speed up the rebounding-to-normal process. Time to walk Connie, he's lonesome out there in the backyard.

My baby sis is a great blood donor b/c she always has a good iron level. She says it's from bran flakes of all things.
